How much is a roadworthy in Queensland?

Selling or re-registering a car? Here's what a Queensland safety certificate costs in 2026, what's included and how to avoid paying twice.

The short answer

The Queensland Government lists the safety certificate inspection fee for cars, utes, vans and 4WDs up to 4.5 tonnes at $102.70 including GST (as at 1 July 2026). At PJFC Automotive a roadworthy is $100 at our Biggera Waters workshop, or from $100 if we come to you, depending on distance. We confirm the price before we book.

What the price includes

The fee covers the full Queensland safety inspection by an approved examiner and, if the vehicle passes, the safety certificate itself. We check:

  • Brakes, including pedal feel and handbrake
  • Steering and suspension components
  • Tyres, wheels and tread depth
  • Headlights, indicators and all lights
  • Seats, seatbelts and restraints
  • Windscreen, wipers, washers and mirrors
  • Body, chassis and rust in structural areas
  • Exhaust, oil leaks and excessive smoke
  • Horn, speedometer and warning lights
  • Vehicle identification (VIN) and number plates

What can add to the cost

  • Repairs. If something fails, you'll get a written list of what needs fixing. You can have the work done anywhere you like.
  • A mobile inspection. Coming to you can cost a little more than driving in, depending on distance. With us it is from $100, confirmed before we book.
  • A wasted trip. If we arrive for a mobile roadworthy and the vehicle isn't there or can't be inspected safely, a call-out fee applies, so let us know if plans change.

If the vehicle doesn't pass

You'll get a written list of the items that need attention. Bring it back to us within 14 days and we only re-check those items rather than doing the full inspection again.

How to keep it to one visit

  • Check every light works, including the number plate light and brake lights.
  • Look at the tyres: tread depth, damage and matching sizes on each axle.
  • Make sure the windscreen has no cracks in the driver's view and the wipers and washers work.
  • Seatbelts should latch and retract properly, and there should be no warning lights on the dash.
